Happy New Year 2011

December 31st, 2010 by Zach No comments »

It’s almost been one year since I registered the domain ‘aspiegeek.com’ with NameCheap – on January 28th of 2010 according from their records – which I will mark that day the first anniversary of The Aspie Geek. Let’s take a look back at our progress.

  • Started ‘The Aspie Geek’ on BlogSpot on June 2, 2009, a month before my 19th birthday.
  • I moved to the wonderful world of WordPress January 21st, 2010 per my last post on BlogSpot. Then, I used the domain ‘aspiegeek.co.cc’.
  • Purchased the domain ‘aspiegeek.com’ from NameCheap January 28, 2010 for $9.98.
  • Moved to a paid host some time ago.
  • Started ‘The Aspie Forums’ but didn’t work as planned.

Throughout this whole year, I’ve sparingly posted here with random topics and thoughts, hoping I could reach out to someone who felt/thought the same way. Not all’s been too well with the site, unfortunately. I am hopeful, however, that 2011 will bring much better content and bring a lot more people to the site. I might even reopen the forums if people will want to join it. But that might not be for some time. Oh well.

I would like to wish everyone an awesome New Years and that 2011 is an awesome year for you all.

Enlarged to Exaggerated Size

November 2nd, 2010 by Zach 1 comment »

If you haven’t noticed lately on TV, food commercials show their new products to be pretty damn big. But in reality, it’s smaller than ever. I really hate how they show it bigger in their ads than what it really is. Either they’re trying to get people to buy it or just to piss us off. It sure does me!

For example, the “Doubleicious™ sandwich” at KFC. Its commercial makes it look like it’s a ginormous sandwich the size of a Whopper® when it’s actually smaller – at least that’s what it seemed like to me. It almost looked like a waste of $5 just for a tiny sandwich. The KFC I went to even forgot to add the bacon on mine. It was just the chicken, sauce, cheese, and bun. I tasted no bacon. That pissed me right off. In my opinion, they should’ve put a notice saying, “Sandwich is not as large as appeared” or something along those lines. We need to know straight out what it looks like when we order it. This also goes for Taco Bell®’s new “XXL Chalupa” thing. It looks huge on TV and the menu picture but it’s as big as, like, a bigger Chaupa except with a new shell and more stuff.

Yeah, that’s about it. Food chains need to be truthful about their items and not exaggerate them to seem bigger and not stress the size. Show it actual size, not a special, super-sized version.

Girlfriend’s Family Picnic at Vala’s

October 16th, 2010 by Zach 1 comment »

If you’ve heard of Vala’s Pumpkin Patch out there near Gretna, NE, I have been there for the first time – ever – with my girlfriend and her family during a family picnic. It was really fun, too. They had lots of attractions, like hayrides (we didn’t do that), haunted houses for kids, mazes, lots of food places, and even a photography thing. Me and my girlfriend did the photo thing. We had to dress up in old Western clothes; I dressed up in a long jacket and a hat and she dressed up in this old-looking dress with a parasol. It was fun. There was a long line, though.

After finally getting our picture taken, we went to the “haunted house” which wasn’t all that scary. In fact, it wasn’t supposed to be scary in the first place, I guess. After that, we went to this place called “The Cookie Coop” where she bought us a cup of chocolate chip cookies; they were small, though. Soon after exploring a bit, we headed back to the campfire place to get something to eat. We had hot dogs, chips, cantaloupe – me, anyway – and a lot of other stuff. I ate everything except a few pieces of the cantaloupe since I was getting full. Oh yeah, I also ate a Rice Krispie treat my mom had made. I was officially full.

Then, after all that, we watched as they were doing a pig-racing show. It was funny, too. Each pig had a punned name of a celebrity that sounded like “pig”. Oh, and there were ducks. :D

At the end, me and her buy a glowstick item: her, a flashing ring and earrings and me, a necklace. After which as we were leaving, I realize I had forgotten to get my jacket which I brought if it got cold. So me and my girlfriend run back to the campsite and get it. Seeing how I have asthma, I ran outta breath on the way there. And then home.

@aspiegeek on Twitter – Taken!

October 14th, 2010 by Zach No comments »

I’ve been wanting to change my current Twitter name, @aspigeek, to @aspiegeek so that it’s more consistent with the site; it’s been taken, sadly. By a woman by the name of “Dawn Slater.” I happened to visit Dawn’s Twitter page and apparently has not used the account at all. She is following 7 people, is being followed by 2 people, and her profile is private. I took the liberty of being accepted into her private profile but… no luck. From what it looks like, she abandoned the account. I could have much more of use for this. :)

Dawn, if you’re reading this, please let me take over the account. I’d be grateful and happy if you let me have it. I registered this domain and technically own the name itself (not trademarked or anything). If you want to join my personal Aspie community, which doesn’t exactly exist, feel free to. All I ask is for the Twitter username. ><

UPDATE: This is an overy-prolonged update, but the account is mine. Follow me at @aspiegeek. :)
